Why Do Christians Have Trouble Confronting Homosexuality?

January 9, 2011 2 comments

When confronting the issue of homosexuality for some reason Christians seem at a loss as to how to deal with it. How do you minister to a person living a homosexual lifestyle? What do you do if an openly gay person wants to teach in Sunday School, Youth Group, Children’s Church, sing in the praise team, etc? Ask these questions to any minister or active church goer and they almost become paralyzed and don’t know quite how to respond. The reason for this is because the Church has been tricked into believing that LGBT is like a race, nationality, ethnic group, gender, etc. So saying that the homosexual lifestyle is sinful is equivalent to saying that being African American, or Hispanic is sinful. Its on the same level of saying that being a Woman is wrong. So we are tricked into believing that we are on the same level as members of the KKK or Nazis if we speak against homosexuality.

This is a LIE straight from the pit of Hell. “Gay” is not a race, nationality, ethnic group, gender, etc. It is a sinful destructive lifestyle just like any other sinful lifestyle. It is no different than drug addiction, alcoholism, sexual immorality, prostitution, idolatry, etc. Satan’s goal here is simply to deceive the Church into accepting Sin as normal. It makes no difference if they are born that way or not. The Bible says that we are ALL born into the curse of Sin and are born with the instinctive nature to live a life of disobedience and rebellion toward God. So I guess you could say, we are ALL “born that way”.

When someone asks me a question like, “What should I do if a homosexual wants to teach Sunday School?” I simply respond, “What would you do if a drug addict or drunk wanted to teach Sunday School?” Most people say that they would definitely not let anyone living such a lifestyle teach or have a ministry or leadership position in the church. Why should homosexuality be any different. Its a sinful lifestyle just like the lifestyle of drunkenness is. We shouldn’t elevate it to something its not. Whenever we have questions on dealing with this issue, it is extremely helpful to take out the word “homosexual” and replace it with the word “drug addict” or “alcoholic”. Then we clearly see the appropriate response in each scenario.

“My God” wouldn’t send anyone to Hell.

For those who have said something similar to this statement, do you realize what you are doing when you say that? By saying, “my god wouldn’t…”, or “my god would…” you are creating a god to suit yourself. The Bible calls that Idolatry. God has clearly revealed himself and who he is in his Word. When we make up an image in our heads that is contrary to what the Bible reveals about him we make a False God. You may claim that your god wouldn’t send anyone to Hell and your right. Thats because he doesn’t exist. The Bible says that no Idolater will inherit the kingdom of God. God is a just god. The Bible says that when we die we will all have to face God at Judgment. On that day he will expose and bring out into the open everything we have ever done, said, and even thought about and bring them into judgment under the light of God’s Law(the Ten Commandment). Then there will be no excuses, no way to justify ourselves. The evidence against will be plain, and indisputable. The verdict of “Guilty” will be certain, and the Judge will give us our just punishment in Hell. Thank God that he sent his Son Jesus to pay the penalty for our crimes on the cross. He paid our debt, paid our fine. If we turn from our sins(repent) and trust in the Savior, will be forgiven, cleanses, pardoned, set free, and granted Eternal Life in Heaven. We will also be Born Again, given a new life, and a new heart. How much time do you have left?
